Exeter swimmers recently competed in the ASA south-western regional championships where the competition was much higher than normal due to the number of national swimmers that have now joined the Plymouth Leander and Millfield swim academies from all over the country and abroad.

George Fearnley was the highlight for Exeter with 2 junior titles and a total of 6 medals.Most swims were pbs in heats and then again in 200i/m and 100m brst finals. Georgia Cotterill (13) also swam well to be placed as an under 16. Liam Spruce finalled in the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m with significant pbs and was swimming against GB, World and Commonwealth swimmers such as Antony James and Steven Beckerlegg and was not outclassed in any way.

Junior finalists were as follows:

George Fearnley – 3rd in the 50m f/s, 2nd in the 100m f/s, 2nd in the 50m fly, 1st in the 100m fly, 2nd in the 100m brst and 1st in the 200m i/m

Georgia Cotterill – 8th in the 50m b/k

Senior finalists were as follows:

Liam Spruce – 5th in the 200m f/s, 7th in the 100m f/s, 7th in the 50m f/s and 5th in the 400m f/s

Amy Cole – 7th in the 200m brst and 8th in the 50m brst

Jessica Twose – 4th in the 50m b/k

Head Coach, Jon Randall, said “Its good for the squad to swim significantly fast both long course (at Cardiff Level 1 meet as previously reported) and short course at these district championships in the first training period of the season”.
